Celosia cristata, Cockscomb or 鸡冠花 Jīguān huā, Wine Red Cockscomb (1m)


“cockscomb” is used as the flower looks like the crown on rooster’s (cock) head.


 Jī, which means rooster, is an auspicious animal. The Chinese believe that the rooster can ward off evil spirits as it crows at the break of dawn.

Jī, rhymes with the word luck,  , in Chinese.

Thus, making it a traditional favourite for the Chinese New Year season to bring in luck to the family.

Water: Water when the soil feels dry to the touch, do not over-water.

Fertiliser: Keep your plant in top form by feeding it every few weeks with a dilute solution of liquid fertiliser or sprinkling solid fertiliser over the soil.
