Melastoma malabathricum (Melastomataceae) is an important traditional medicinal and landscape shrub that is commonly found in tropical and temperate Southeast Asian countries. The whole plant is used as herbal medicine. The shoots and roots are used to treat stomachache and diarrhoea. The roots and leaves are applied externally to wounds and haemorrhoids to hasten recovery.

Water: Water when soil feels dry to the touch, do not over-water.

Fertiliser: Keep your plant in top form by feeding it every few weeks with a dilute solution of liquid fertiliser or sprinkling solid fertiliser over the soil.
