Euphorbia tirucalli, commonly known as Pencil Cactus or Milk Bush, is a highly distinctive succulent shrub or small tree recognized for its dense, pencil-like green stems. Native to Africa and parts of India, it forms a striking, branching structure that gives it a coral-like appearance.
The plant has smooth, cylindrical, leafless stems that store water, allowing it to thrive in very dry conditions. When cut or damaged, it exudes a milky latex sap typical of the Euphorbia genus. As it matures, it can grow into a large, sculptural plant suitable for bold landscape designs.
This species is extremely drought tolerant and requires minimal care, making it ideal for xeriscaping, modern gardens, and large container displays.
