The Ficus religiosa, commonly known as the Holy Buddha Tree or Sacred Fig, is revered in Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. This species of fig tree is native to the Indian subcontinent and is distinguished by its heart-shaped leaves with an extended tip. According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, attained enlightenment while meditating under a Ficus religiosa tree, hence it is also called the Bodhi Tree or "Tree of Enlightenment." It symbolizes knowledge, compassion, and tranquility, and is often planted near temples and monasteries. The tree can live for centuries, growing up to 30 meters tall, and its leaves and bark are used in traditional medicine.
