The Beal tree, also known as Aegle marmelos has many uses.

Culinary Uses:

The bael fruit is versatile in culinary applications:

  • Fresh Consumption: The sweet, aromatic pulp can be eaten fresh.

     

  • Beverages and Preserves: It's commonly used to prepare drinks, jams, and candies. The fruit is rich in riboflavin and other nutrients, making it a nutritious choice.

     

Cultural Significance:

In Hinduism and Buddhism, the bael tree is sacred. In Nepal, for instance, the bael fruit plays a central role in the Bel Bibaaha fertility ritual among the Newar community.

 

Cultivation:

Bael trees thrive in various soil types, from acidic to alkaline, and are tolerant of waterlogging. They prefer full sunlight and require a pronounced dry season to fruit effectively. The tree is hardy in USDA zones 10–12 and is frost-tender.

 


Sunlight: Full Sun

Water: Water when soil feels dry to the touch, do not over-water.
Fertiliser: Keep your plant in top form by feeding it every few weeks with a dilute solution of liquid fertiliser or soild fertiliser over the soil.
Plant size: approx. 40-50cm (vary in sizes)
Rootball size: 16cmØ x 14cmH
Pot type: The plant comes in a brown landscape pot (with drainage holes)
